well, i'm back in the uk after 3 weeks in the u.s. i picked up some scary gluey stuff for locking threads in cars. i don't think they sell it here.
thanks for all the tips.
my current carb is fine, so i don't want to go from the pan to the fire on trying out another used one. i've glued everything ...

I[color=red] only use the car on fairly short runs at the moment (15k/10 m max, often 5k/3m) and the temperature never seems to get above about 1/4 on the guage unless stuck in traffic when it climbs up to about half and the fan only ever kicks in very occasionally, the temp drops back to the ...

aren't carbs kind of pricey? i only paid £250 for the car in the first place. anyhoo, i've found a solution i'm going to try, i think. i'd like opinions on this, however. before i attempt to retap the threads, i thought i might try this product that i've come across in an auto supply store in the ...

gasket replacement and screw threads shot

okay, the cable seems to be fine. i think i've fixed the problem... which seems to have been my fault in the first place. when i bought the car, it was missing 1 of the 3 screws that hold the air filter housing unit to the carb. i replaced that screw with one that was 1cm longer than the original ...

manual choke problems

hi there, everyone. glad to see the site back up.
here's my recent trouble with my '89 340 DL vario:
when idling (it doesn't matter whether engine is hot or cold), or sometimes even just travelling at very low speeds, it idles really rough and usually ends up cutting out. the rpms jump varying ...

'click' test on 340 vario

hey. i just tried to post this question as a reply to another vario question and it seems to have disappeared into the ether. so sorry if this is a repeat...
on another vario post, someone instructed to run the car in neutral with the bonnet up rev to around 1700 rpm, and listen for a ...

i have an '89 GL 340 vario, and yes it came with a rev counter, and the clock on the centre console. the heated seats don't seem to work, though. the revs on mine depend on the car's mood. usually town driving 30-40 mph the revs stick to around 2800, although sometimes the transmission doesn't ...

boot leak on 340

hi there.
i've just bought a lovely 340. it has a few minor problems like idling when cold, but i've checked out other comments on this forum, and hopefully will be able to sort that. the other problem, however, no one else has mentioned yet...
i've noticed water standing in the boot after heavy ...
