Folks, to my regret, the cap of the B17 engine is fixed with screws, not clamps.
So the cap cannot be removed as easy as that of the B14 engine (which I drove before for 22 years without ever having any problems with carb or distributor during all those years - apart from a boken spring one time in ...

1.7 not running at cold season
Folks,
my 340 GL with B17 engine - the worst running engine I ever had - is only starting badly when it gets cold outside.
After using the starter with full choke some time, I have to turn the starter with no choke but full throttle. After some minutes, the engine starts (rather badly, initially not ...

B17 engine idling unstable
This is something no garage could fix so far:
Some years ago I had a 345 with B14 3E engine idling very stable, but the present 340 with B17 engine is idling extremely unstable, between around 500 and 1500 rpm., depending on various conditions.
The adjustment is that it normally idles at about 900 ...

Re: 1.7 340 running rubbish please help???
I had a similar problem some time ago with my B17 engine:
It started, had ignition failures, died after a very short distance driving and could be restarted only when cold again.
It turned out that the carbon pencils in the distributor cap were worn out.
Accordingly, Isuggest that you check the ...

Re: gearbox leaking oil - no shaft seal available
Thank you folks for the hints so far.
The part closest to no. 39 which Timken offers has dimensions of 70 X 52 X 8. The Timken part number is 527008XX.
However, 8 mm is a little bit too thick.
Part no. 39 obviously has an oil hole somewhere which is responsible for the leak.
The outer gasket is ...

gearbox leaking oil - no shaft seal available
Dear all:
My VOLVO 340 GL with B17 engine has started to leak oil between the differential and the gearbox.
To fix that leakage, my VOLVO dealer intends to replace two (rotary) shaft seals - VOLVO part no. 3284934.
[Thickness 6 mm; inner diameter 52 mm; outer diameter 70 mm; with an alternating spin ...
