I know a guy who used to work at a dealership when they were produced and he said volvo insisted every dealership had to have one, I think at the time there were about 230 dealers so not many if any more than that, really rare!!

Depending on how the tests I am having go, I fancy it. I could even get a mate to drive my 1.4 or the Redline, if it's done!.

Gutted

Just been told that I am not allowed to drive for at least 12 months whilst I have brain scans and various other tests for a form of epilepsy. I am totally gutted as I now have to be driven everywhere. I am not going to sell the 300s though however much pressure I get, in fact I think I have found a...

Have you tried checking/changing the needle valve? i had an idle problem on a carb i rebuilt, i changed the new needle valve for the original one and it seems to have cured it. If the valve is sticking chances are the carb is flooding.

Thats great, thank you, it's got to have been the stat, i think its always good to have a reason why. I don't think i'll bother with the boiling water test anymore, it doesn't seem reliable and its really not impressing my wife!!!

I did boil it in a pan, i thought that someone had removed it originally thats why the car was running so cold, i was surprised to see it in the pipe. At the end of the day its sorted but i like to know the reason for things!!!!!.

Cooling system

Here's one that has got me puzzled. My 1.4 had it's MOT on tuesday which it passed first time, they did however mention it was running cold, something i had noticed as the gauge barely moved and it had no heat. I changed the thermostat and coolant let it ran, and up shot the gauge and there was heat...

My guess would be the battery has had it, if it was the alternator at fault you would normally get the battery warning light flickering. The first snap of cold is great at finally killing off a weak battery.

I wonder why we do these mad things, mine was replacing my brilliant 1.7 for a citroen ax to save on petrol and tax, drove it once, got some medication and sold it losing loads of money. My father in laws k series in his MGF has just blown one of its coolant pipes, he says a new pipe is all it needs...

I have had both types of engine and i still can't make my mind up about which i prefer. Having said that the last 1.7 i had was knackered so i can't really compare my 1.4 to that one!. The 1.4 obviously has two main advantages cheap tax and no cambelt to change, but it is really a bit underpowered. ...

The dizzy cap is new, but i will check it. I am wondering if the fuel pump is on its last legs, but there again being mechanical surely it would do it all the time, unless there is something floating about in the inline fuel filter that periodically blocks the outlet pipe. New filter is worth a try.
