Well I think it is worth a try if I can get a 440 carby that bolts straight on. What do you all think of this theory: Because the inlet manifold is not heated, when it is still cold the vapour condenses on the inside and causes the motor to stall and backfire. The pressure of the backfire then cause...

Carby problem solved?
Ok, now I am really optimistic. Having had carburetor freezing problems for 2 years (since buying) I have replaced the floater, needle and seat, rebuilt the carby, shaved the base, replaced the thermister and now finally some joy. I have removed the thermostat from the air intake flap so that it doe...

warm air intake
Your dead right there. According to Wikipaedia the 340 is notorius for carburetor problems. I did replace the pre-heater thermistor and now it gets quite hot but only where the small thermister is housed. I have been reading a bit about warm air intakes and cold air intakes. warm air is compolsory i...

Warm air intake flap
As soon as my warm air intake switches to cold air the carby (solex 28/34) freezes. Do these things open too early when they get old? Also, the hot water circulation in the carburetor base, there is a 3/8" rubber hose coming out but how does the water get in?

Ok, I wrecked a junked microwave oven and found a beatifull ceramic resistor with spade connectors. It is designated as 10 Ohm 20 Watt. As predicted, it draws 1.2 amp. I attached it to the carby body and ,believe it or not, it gets rid of the flat spot and stalling after about 5 minutes. My only con...

thermister
So what does the thermister do? If it is only a thermal switch that turns off when warm then is there also a heating coil there somewhere? Also, what torque for carby to manifold bolts?

Third time lucky!
I have made 3 attempts to fix my carburation problem. 1. Used rebuild kit obtained from The Carburettor Exchange in Leighton Buzzard. Did not include electrical heating part. Cost £25 Result: No change. 2. Weighed float set (12g) and bought new float set (6g) from Renaullt (part 77 01 031 047) Cost ...
