It's a rubber protector which came on double sticky tape back in the 80's to protect the rear from your car park neigbour ...

does sound as though something's out of line or something.

More likely dismantled and refitted out of line...No service history is available from the current owner (only the second one, as first owner kept the car for 22 years and current owner 2 years)
My guess is that this car over the past two ...

It'a sticker, the "E.U" flag..... God knows for what reason the poor old little thing stuck that sticker there ! to conceal a scratch in the paint work ?

and it's an earlier car than I'm used to, but I'd guess the gearbox mount could be worn or loose, which may cause sometime similar?

Could well be...... make sense any way, but if then, it could have been easily fixed by the seller, You ...
