VIBRATION (AND NOT IN A GOOD WAY )
been getting a fair bit of vibration through the steering lately , the wheels have been balanced , just wondering what order I should do things in , thinking of replacing track rod ends , getting tracking done and if this fails doing the wheel bearings . or is there anything else I should look for , it usually comes in between 70 and 80 mph and clears at about 95 to 100 mph, I know the sports steering wheel I fitted probably emphasies it , its not dangerous just annoying, it passed its mot four months ago and nothing was advised to do with steering and I havent hit any kerbs or anything

Check wheel bearings Mick!! Mine did that and it used to vibrate like crazy through the column!!! When the wheel bearings are doing this, they are in the early stages of going out!!! Awheel bearing kit is only like £12and they are not too bad a job to do yourself!!! The hardest part is getting the bolts out of the caliper carrier!!
A Way to check is jack up the front of the car and spin the wheels, listen for a humming noise!!!
Hope that helps mate!!!
Cheers Adam

took car in today and had the tracking done ( it was well out ), the guy said he could see no excess wear in the roll bar bushes , wheel bearings or track rod ends so came home . put the new alloys on and went for a spin , guess what , no vibration whatsoever , only down side is I noticed the front brake pads need replacing Doh !!

It is worth noting that some tyre places don't calibrate their machines often enough, so you can't automatically rule out wheel balancing just because you've had them balanced...d'oh! If you're bothered, ask how often they have the machines calibrated - once a week is good, one a month is ok...just, any less isn't on.

you can actually test it yourself
jack one rear wheel up, put the unbalenced wheel on. put teh car in 5th and ease the clutch up, get a mate/son to build up the revs.. up to where the vibrations normally occur (remember the speedo wont work) have a look at the wheel - if its not balenced it will wobble. might be a good idea to chock it first.
