There's a plug and socket connecter in the wiring loom just in front of the heater box that you can disconnect to isolate the heater fan. This may help until you've checked everything. :)

Yeah we've disconnected it - safer that way! It was on setting 2 when I noticed the smell and what you say sounds possible. Getting it looked at next week!

Lucky indeed. I think a small fire extinguisher isn't a bad idea, better safe than sorry. Chris had a close call, spotted by Kate I believe, and they prevented a nasty fire. There are some pics I've seen of what I believe was a nice white GLT abroad somewhere, which caught fire, I seem to think that was something electrical that caused it, badly wired or damaged, and within minutes, it was a wreck.

Well, if time isn't an issue so you can wait until the 22nd and make it part of the meet, I'm sure there will be plenty of expertise that could help sort it out.

Ahhh, that'd be the one, getting confused, I had an underlying feeling it was something a bit special. Sad loss, soooooo, I'll be getting a fire extinguisher asap, been meaning to for sometime.

I keep meaning to get one, you are quite right, I did have a close call... and was sorting out an earth fault on the rear cluster at the time, not that had anything to do with the cause. Luckily I sussed roughly what was going on, and just ripped every fuse out of the box. Cue phone call to Foggy to get them back in order to drive home ;)

we've got a dozen 300 'experts' descending on the Ludlow area who I'm sure will be able to do a better job than the average 'spanner monkey' I know cos its a Mk2 its gonna be a different air box but at least we know roughly what we're looking for......So if you can, hold off taking it to a garage.

I saw a video a while back of a VW Golf that caught fire and they had to wait ages for a fire engine and it was a reck. :(

All points noted chaps. It is going for a service on thursday but I doubt he'd be able to do anything about the heater problem before sunday anyway. I await advice from you all! sm15
