Really confused....
OK....340 has been running shakey (and yes I've looked at that thread.) Tried the carb bolts thing - no bolts, I seem to have screw heads which were nice and tight anyway. Put everything back together, you know, air filter bits etc, started the car up and it has now developed a jolt when pressing the eccelerator pedal that wasnt there before and is now running REALLY shakey - so much so I dont want to take it any distance at all. So go on...tell me....what'd I do???!!!
I know you guys like a challenge!

Did you take the filter off and check the screws underneath Gem? Erm, other than that, might be one of the breather hoses between the carb and the manifold has perished

Could you have got a little bit of dirt in the carb? My old 205 had a Solex twin choke thing that was very sensitve to any dirt that came near it - once a month I had to wash the choke down the carb cleaner to keep it running right, otherwise it would produce similar symptons to your 340.
As the others say check breather hoses that may be blocked or perished, all the ignition bits (plugs, leads, coil, rotor arm, dizzy cap). Check the fuel filter too in case its partially blocked. Erm thats about all I can think of for now!

The carb bolts aren't the only thing which can go wrong with this carb. Nessy's was leaking air badly from the centre where there was a hole in the gasket material. My advice would be to take everything apart and look for damage / looseness.

Well, we did it all today, tightened things, checked things, undid things and re-connected things and the old volvo is now purring like a kitten! Hasnt been this responsive since I had it I dont think. Thanks for all your advice in this matter!
