shaft propeler
... thanks pettaw for your reply ... the problem about buying a 360 here in greece is that it is almost inpossible to find one ... and the taxes for importing a used car are very hi for an old one so ... i wil try to fit a torgue tube or fit a propeller shaft from an other vehicle like bmw 's E21 or E30 or whatever can be fitted ...pettaw wrote:There is a guy on here (Huskyracer) who made (or rather had made) a solid propshaft with two universal joints which he reckoned is good for about 250 bhp.
It is very difficult to convert to a torque tube system, you'd need a 360 gearbox and probably a 360 engine too, so why not just buy a 360

John - I am very interested in this thing about high taxes for importing second hand cars into Greece. Please tell me more about it.
Surely if we are all in the EU we can move cars from one european country to another without problems?
What is the tax called, and how much is charged? Is it a flat rate or is it a percentage of the vehicles value?
Sorry for all the questions but this is quite important to me!
Cheers

Well Portugal is in the UE to and you have to pay a high tax
You don«t have to pat the VAT if you have payed it in the original country of the car, but when you arrive here to get the Portuguese plates you'll pay a tax wich is calculated by the displacemente of the motor and the years of the car.
Only cars with more than 25 years won't pay it.

Same thing in Finland too, if I buy car from germany it will get taxes to pay, now it is much less than earlier but still against EU laws, here is few active ppl that are keeping noise from it and Finland is soon going to court from violating EU laws and regulations.
Tax in here is coming from two parts, first is some kind of car tax and other is ALV that is similar to VAT, that is generally 22%
Then of course need to every year around 100€ tax, then tax from fuel, tax from insurance and insurance, lol list is endless
There was much more involved to this, but can't remember more now.

Here for example.. some years ago I've bought a Volvo S80 T5 (new) wich pays more axes than it's base price...
Then 70% of fuel price is taxes, a annual tax that depends in the displacement of the car to...
Some people year goes against that to, but don't get any results

As I understand it, when you buy a car (new or used) abroad, you tell the vendor that you're exporting it and don't pay local taxes. Then you keep a bill of sale with the agreed purchase price on it, on which you're charged import duty by customs when you reach home.
If you were German and brought your German car into the UK when you moved here to live, you wouldn't pay tax on it in the same way that you can take any of your posessions abroad with you provided that they are for your use.
I think I'm right in saying that motor traders are charged VAT on vehicle sales, which you forget about when you trade privately... so be thankful we aren't in some US states like California, where you're charged purchase tax on any used car you buy when you register as its owner.
