Many thanks for all your help, everyone!

Methinks my predecessor (1993 - 2005) may have had a bit of a cooling problem. He seems to have replaced waterpump, thermostat and those coolant temp sensors at some point.

It was running a bit warm on the way over from Dresden, but maybe that's something for a seperate thread in future. I'm collecting the car from my gran's this weekend, I'll keep a (paranoid) eye on the temp gauge ...

might be worth five minutes back flushing the radiator before you set off from grannys , at least it would rule out one possibility

If the chap had just replaced the #1 cause of cooling problems - and a very common one on 360s of this age - the radiator, he might have been ok ;)

cheers

Hmmm... IIRC, there was a bit of a whiff of coolant every now and then on the way over. Couldn't detect any leakage though.

I remember one of my neighbours having a fit as I replaced the radiator of the red GLi a couple of years ago in the road near our old flat. Coolant went everywhere.

The two sensors in Pic 1 are for LE-jet. The long one is the thermal time switch that controls when and how the cold start injector fires on cold startup. The smaller one is the coolant temperature sensor for the main injection.
