360 buying advice.......
Rust is the biggest thing you have to worry about. Look out for bubbling under the windscreen seal which can be indicative of bad things going on out of sight. Also check for rust on the front turrets, under/around the battery, under/around the fuse box. Poor bodywork will be by far the most expensive and difficult thing to put right, so save yourself the hassle and get one with a good body in the first place.
The engines are normally pretty bulet proof. But check the oil's been changed, check under the cap for mayonaisse (emulsion) which is indicative of head gasket failure. Look for blue smoke on start up. The engine should start immediately.
Don't worry too much if the steering is vague on a manual steering car. Check down the bulkhead on the right hand side and you can see a nasty looking rubber disc which is the steering dampner - I've never bought a GLT which didn't have a split steering dampner, and it's cheap and easy to change.
The gearshift can come adrift of it's mounting which makes it difficult to get into 2nd and 4th and awkward for all other gears. This needs welding and can be an awkward job.
I can't think of anything else right now but I'm sure others will chip in.
They do come up regularly on ebay, and check your local free ads paper under the cheap section. You shouldn't have to pay more than £500 unless it's in particularly good condition
