Redid the intake piping

Post by Fuse » 31 Jul 2007 10:44 pm

I had nothing else to do so I redid the intake piping. Old one did almost a 180 degree turn right after the turbo, and it sucked hot air from the turbo.. Well it sucked otherwise also. Bend was cracked and caused intake leaks regulary.

Industrial heater hoses and exhaust piping painted black ftw. Parts didn't cost much, though those are heavy duty.

I really should wash my engine and tidy up it a bit.. Looks a bit messy right now.

I also placed the expansion tank and washer tank on their original places and made a heat shield similiar as GL has. Works great.

Looks nice, now it takes bit colder air too, I believe :D

Do you still have that carb air intake hole there or is intercooler piping running trough it?

But there is quite well wind when moving so certainly would not do much difference really.

Intercooler pipes are going through those. :P I think I'm going to put the battery on the other side because there's so much room now, and maybe fit some airbox and run a pipe on front. That stupid AFM meter takes too much room.. next step is the Megasquirt. :P

Today one more pig head joined to club of megasquirted pig heads, as one member of Volvolandia got his running with MS, so it is hopefully soon that we see yours joining in too (no we don't have any cult thing  ).

some kind of ram air could be helpful, but maybe it is not so important as it is in NA car, don't know so much of those.

You will have one problem when squirting, that is intake temp, it is so hard to install sensor such way that there would be no heat soak effect when standing still and idling, but I don't believe that there is any other problems.

I've been considering relocating my filter aswell since mine comes out of the turbo with a 90 degree bend and thats it, the actual filter itself gets rather hot so can't be great. I might take some logs on megasquirt, then relocate and see the difference

A while back there where some pics of a turbo'd 360 sedan from belgium on one of the v300 forums, I saw it at a trackday @Zolder circuit a few weeks ago. The thing runs a stock b200et engine and goes quite well, but I'll get on with the interesting bit.

That car has the airfilter behind the righthand side headlight, but has it enclosed in an airbox made out of aluminium. The airbox can be fed through a slot in the hood or with a tube and also acts as a nice heatshield. Looks lots cleaner than running the filter all the way to the intake side of the engine, and it shortens the intake lenght, good for more response and high-end power.

Yeah but like I said, my turbo is positioned so that you cannot fit a filter on the exhaust side so, that there would be only max 90-degree bend, AMF meter is in the way.. 180-degree bend isn't such a good thing right after the turbo, it's better to have a bit longer piping than a very steep bend right after the turbo. Rresponse with that system is actually better than it was with the old thingy.

If wouldn't have AFM meter I would run the filter with a box inside the exhaust side front fender.
