Interesting stuff, so is it easier to build your own system or try to get a second hand one to save money? Like so:

I can solder and have a laptop etc, its just money as always

For that price go for second hand and save, less work as you don't need to solder whole ms unit.

Only external wiring then needed, that is not too bad job, first just make a plan, what goes where, after that build it. I would say that after a weekend car should be on road again if planning is done well, that is most important thing as if you make mistake it is easy to trace it down then.

yeah, Jani's right, for that price you get the board which is what you need and no need to build/screw it up yourself ;)

The wiring is the main difficulty as is gathering all the electrical parts and rigging them up to work together properly, but be methodical and its not too bad.

Then the real fun begins, tuning the damn thing. With a wideband and knock sensor you'll know where you are as regards timing and fuel, the trouble is staying in one power band long enough to get it tuned, and I haven't even got spark setup on mine. I'm running fuel only. It takes time and a lot of patience and lots of space.

Quick and dirty trick for staying in one map slot to tune it easily is use brake.

In dyno, dyno will have the brake that keeps load constant so you can tune all areas, you can do same by using brake, find quiet road and drive with 2nd, take one rpm bin and go trough map values one by one using brake to keep speed stable, then next rpm and next.

I think that is also fastest way to get car tuned.

Problem is where to find enough quiet road :)

In megatune there is also autotune feature and it seem to work really well. You make your driving and autotune is adjusting mixture, then you hit alt-b and work is saved, you can use few minutes or hours to driving.

yeah, I have also held the car on the handbrake and slipped the clutch to do some of the lower down bins :)m The autotune is great for large areas, but to do fine tuning I prefer to take a log and use VexME in EGO mode.

I have found that I have too much power for handbrake so need to keep left foot on brake and right on throttle, feels like driving fwd car, only way to get fwd to turn is to use left foot braking :D

I have not got to finetuning yet, but I planned to do it manually in ve tuning screen. I think that automatic tuning is never enough to get table totally finished.
