Loss of power during hard cornering
If it is due to the tank you can get motorsport foam which you put into the tank in small blocks which then just stops the fuel getting sloshed about as much, either that or just keep the lever higher. Also watch that you don't get fuel coming out of the filler cap, I know this was an issue for Sid (turbohaustouge) and he had to tape it up

No, it's not been sorted yet. The car went in for a service and they told me that the carb was so worn that there was no more adjustment in it. I'm going to have to get it looked at soon, especially as it now seems to be running too rich (poor performance, high fuel consumption, smell of petrol), but other things have taken priority.

Then I'm guessing that they are trying to adjust the mixture not the float heights.... hmmm, I'd have a look yourself tbh.
It's not a hard job mate, it's a nadgers scary the first time, but take your time and be careful and you'd be fine. There's enough of us who have done it to be able to point you in the right direction!
It is however easy to see whats going on, and if you have it right.

measure from the tip of the end of the floats to the top plate gasket. Just turn the cover upside down so the floats are resting on the needle valve, and make sure the ball bearing spring is compressed. It should be because of the weights of the floats. This is different to some other carbs, where you have to make sure the needle valve is closed but the ball bearing is unsprung.
this to me sounds like an over-fuelling problem, I was getting similar symptoms and leaning out the mixture a little has helped, although I'm not sure what the exact source of the extra fuel is.
my fiat 126 suffered from fuel starvation when cornering, it was a fair bit lethal when I nearly rolled it on a roundabout :S
overfuelling usually feels more like a flat spot, whereas fuel starvation causes a complete cut in power, if that helps...
