sorry if i sounded like that, but i'd rather have that little bit more peace of mind about it not falling apart if the car was younger and as a student i dont really have that much income to be replacing major parts if they go wrong due to age or whatever. im sure you can understand this from my view.

pete - do you think sometime january maybe? power steering? pics? nice one mate.

Major parts on any 300 series are no more likely to fail fom the first mk1's to the last of the mk3's.

Provide you check the car over and make sure it all seems to be good than that is the most improtent. Rust will be the biggest enamy tbh.

PS try not to pich the thread

Sorry for the threadjack Dai, but in reply to AMR, January is optimistic. I've a lot to do at work in the meantime. It does have PAS.

Dai is right, rust is your enemy, mechanically it's either unlikely to go wrong, or it's cheap and easy to fix in most cases. Upgrading parts or replace worn things is a good idea. Which is where this topic comes in....... decide on some parts that need fabricating!!!

Back on track!

Ok so far we have talked about exhausts and manifolds - this is going to happen please see other thread.

Rear ARB - this is will be coming early next year. I'm going to have to cost it out and build the kit so that it is bolt on.

We have also had brief mention of brake upgrades. What are ppl wanting. Vented front discs? Rear disc conversion kits? Price range how much would you spend?

I have some more project ideas on the way - will have to wait and see what comes of it.

Vented front brakes would be good. I'm not too fussed on rear brake upgrades. As for price - as little as possible :) It depends what would be included - would it just be a bracket for mounting some 240 4-pots say, or would it be calipers, brackets, discs and pads?

From a personal point of view it would be good if it was just some sort of mounting bracket, then you could source the other parts yourself to suit your needs. I'd be happy to pay £50 for a pair of brackets. Whether that's being a bit naive or not I dont know, that's just a figure off the top of my head. With discs (if they had to be re-drilled for example), maybe £100 (assuming they're just plain discs). Again dont be insulted it that's too little, I'm just picking these figures out of the air without looking into them at all!

Vented front brake disks...

It would be great if it uses the same discs as a big producition car to be easy to find good discs at good prices for it :)

youre not gonna fit much under a 14 inch wheel , perhaps about 260 280 mm - which isnt huge but from the same range of vehicles and the same offset of the brake disc are the 305mm one , TSR stock them at £65 a disc .

regarding the discs - dont know if ive mentioned but my family runs a motorspares shop. i could possibly look up dimensions of various discs and whatever else to see if they would fit?

need to know first what dimensions and tolerances are required.

280mm Disks wont fit under 14's will 15's. As for the T5R disks you would struggle to redrill them to fit a 300 hub as they are 5 holed not 4 so hole spacing would become a problem.

I'm too lazy to have read the whole thing...but if this is a 'wish list', I'd suggest that a budget 'big brake' kit (for front and rear separately) would go down well. Something like ~12" discs with 240 4-pot calipers...whatever works and is cheap really.

It might also be worth looking at how the bias valve chappie works, in order to re-compensate for say hefty fronts only.

cheers
