Confused...

Starter motor packed in today while in the McDonalds car park..so I called the breakdown cover people and they sent a bloke in a recovery truck who aided me to bump start it. After driving it home, I left it in the drive for a while and then went back to try and start it. Starter motor turned as normal (seemingly) although the engine didn't fire till after a few attempts. After that started on the button at each attempt.

Should I take it to a garage or just carry on?

Might well be a dodgy connection. Engine earth and starter solenoid connections are always a favourite.

Solaniod stickings another good one... though the breakdown guys usually hit them with a hammer, and the starter wouldn't turn at all if the solaniod is stuck (think of it as a huge relay)

if it goes again, simply get a big spanner out and give it a thump. once starters are on their way out they tend to work intermittently

the pinion can get stuck in ring gear causing it to just click when trying! only way to get it to recoil apart from stripping ,is to bump start it .
this has happened to me many times in many cars.
