Vacuum Gauge

the fellow that owned the car before me fitted a vacuum gauge where the ashtray in the front lives. it has some interesting cablings tat i'm not sure i understand.

firsty there is a thin hose that goes into tehg auge which is connected to a T piece that then goes from one side into the engine it seems and the other side into the renix. this seems a lot different to my econ gauge which i'd rather have working.

if i pulled the hoses out would something bad happen?

also does anyone have any T pieces suitable for putting an econ into the b17? either that or a part number so i can get it from the local dealer....

thanks

Thats the line that Hugh (5lab) I think tapped for Nessy, it's exactly the same vacuum, but at a different place. The renix has a vacuum feed so it can adjust the timing (look in Haynes for a funky 3d graph that shows the mapping). So in short, if you take it off, block the end with something, else the ignition timing will be knackered. If you block the end with an econ gauge, then you have working engine and gauge ;)

what do i do with the hose that goes into the engine? or does that stay as part of the line?

From what I understand of your situation, you've got a hose that goes from the engine to the renix, that has a t-piece added to it, and this goes to your (no standard) vacuum gauge. If you use the hose that goes to the gauge (leaving the engine and renix sides of the t-piece alone) on your econ gauge, all should work fine. If the hose is the wrong diameter, you might need to swap the t-piece over, I'm not sure of teh diameter of he renix/engine line, but I know it's thin. Maybe an aquarium airline t-piece would do the job....

Whatever happens, you need to make sure the hose between the engine and renix remains under vacuum pressure. Hope thats what you mean, shout if not ;)
