During V3M offline period...

Post by thyzerrr » 09 Nov 2005 12:46 am

I haven't been picking my nose either (well, at least not all the time :) )

New unit, sounds way better than the previous one, + this one can play cds.

I've got myself a pair of headlight wipers...

Image

...a pair of foglights...

I'm currently working on a switch to toggle inside/outside temp. The jack-input you can see in the right panel goes to the aux-in of the HU.
Underneath the input I'm going to fit the I/O switch.

And, I've found a set of these, I like them a lot!

Running/ upcoming projects are:

-Fitting an MK3 rear spoiler
-getting wires through the doors so I can finish my central locks, electric mirrors and pre-wire for windows
-finishing the indoor temp-stuff
-mounting a set of alloys (when my current tires have worn down)
-trying to fit a 700/900 driver's seat

Woah... uber ultra rare cavity covers... looks nice!

How you doing the inside/outside temp thing? I take it you mean for the dash gauge? I've done it, it's an easy one, and nicely effective. Give a shout if any problems come up.

Well, I'm kinda taking the hard road...

I tried to find a double-pole switch that would fit into the cap near the handbrake. It had to have a rocker with I/O markings (for inside/outside temp) but I could only find single-pole switches with these markings.

So I'm taking a single pole switch, 2 single-pole relays (because I didn't have 1 double-pole... :) ) and a temp-sensitive resistor.

Do you know to which 2 pins of the white connector the temp. sensor connects at the back of the gauge panel?

That all looks excellent. The rear cavity covers look good, are they a decent fit or not, as I've heard they were a bit flimsy and didn't fit too well! Still nice to have though I'm sure. :)
Nice little projects, like the aux jack and temp gauge mods. Keep up teh good work and keep us posted.

Don't bother connecting to the dash connector, there are 2 crimp teminals under the steering column, that you can just put the relay in between. Don't have to cut any orig loom that way ;)

@ Pete: you're right, the covers don't fit really well, but good enough to stay in place. They've been for sale for a couple of months, if they're so rare I think it's strange that no one has bought them before I did.

@ Chris: I'll still need to connect the output from the relay (ie. the inside/outside temp sensor). Do you know to which 2 pins on the right hand connector it goes?

Tomorrow the switch will arrive, so I hope to finish this nice litle project then.

tia,

thijs

Did you put your temp sender in yourself? Would make it easier if you had, there are two spade connectors under the dash, they connector to a white wire with black stripe and a brown wire. These come from the gauge cluster, and go to the temp sender. If you under the spade connectors, you can use the dash side of them to wire the switch too, and the orig temp sender, and teh new, inside one can both be wired to the switch. Hope that makes a bit more sense, if you don't know which spade connectors I'm on about, I'll take a photo for you tomorrow!

I did put it in myself, it was already prewired though (1 connector with 2 wires underneath the air filter) so I didn't have to connect anything to the gauge panel.

I think I'll be able to find the wires, cut them in two and connect them to the relay. If not, I'll give you a shout.

Oh yes, I've added another feature a couple of weeks ago. I found it very annoying that as soon as I close the door, the interiorlight switches of immediately.

Image
With this little addition the light above the 'contactschakelaar' (contact switch?) now fades out in about 15 seconds, instead of instant-off. Now I have enough time to find the contact switch.

Ahh, I understand, heard of that before! Well... on the other end of the wires that come from that plug, there are two smaller connectors, which will break the wire just were you need, and you can either crimp on joining connections, or cut the plugs of and solder.

Neat mod you've done to the interior light, the GLT's had a relay that held the lights on for 15secs or so, I have one indoors I keep meaning to fit. Ignition switch is the one I think you mean, turned by the key?

Thanks, indeed ignition switch is the word I was looking for.

I found out about the existence of this relay, just a few hours after fitting this in my 360... still proud of it though :D

The cavity covers were for sale that long because I already have them, otherwise they would have been gone ages ago!
They do fit pretty good in my car, but the panel they clamp on to is indeed flimsy. I

But why did all the other V3C members not buy it? They're not thát ugly

I like them, although the one on the left tends to fall open if I make some tight curves...maybe I just need to change my style of driving... :)

Good stuff chap! ChrisC did a nice mod of the temp gauge for internal temp, something I like the idea of, but mine will be a tad different! One question, with a rear wiper going in, where's your switch going for that now!? As I was showing Aymat the other night the positioning of the rear wiper switch, it's next to the fogs.
