gasoline pump

Post by Dexter » 24 May 2006 07:27 pm

Where situated the gasoline pump? in tank or under tank?
I want to change a carburator to injector, and i don't know where gasoline pump must stand.
P.S. Sorry for my English

Cheers Dexter

Doesn't matter, to be honest. The only thing is you need to upgrade all the fuel hoses to take the higher pressure. As long as you give it an adequate fuel supply then you can use any type of pump you wish, provided it has the correct flow rate.

Sorry Andy, I'm going to have to disagree there. If Dexter is wanting to swap from carb to injection, he'll need a higher pressure pump. Carb pumps are generally high volume, but very low pressure. Flat-out, my standard pump makes about 5psi, average. EFI pumps tend to push more like 50psi. Mechanical FI ones tend to be even higher, IIRC.

You can get regulators which step the pressure down, allowing an EFI pump to be used with carbs, but not the other way around.

The standard mechanical pump is on the side of the engine block. The easiest thing is probably to fit the complete fuel system from a 360 injection.

cheers

You need to read the question Foggy. He knows he has to change pumps, but he wants to know what type, in tank or out of tank, and like I say, it doesn't matter provided it provides the correct flow :D
