As most of you won't know, I'm an RAC patrol.
On my travels the other day I was sent to a low mileage G plate 1.4 345 that had developed a serious misfire.
The owner of the car told me that his garage had had a look at it and cleaned out the carb. He informed me that it was definitely a fuel blockage (if these people know so much about their bloody cars then why call us? )
I fired it up and immediately identified it as an ignition problem (with the owner still mumbling something about fuel).
I took the cap off- remember this car was just about running- and found...........

you're not going to believe this..............

you know what a 340 rotor arm should look like don't you?

shouldn't really look like this then!

Eek!
I soon had it running fine after a visit to a parts shop and sent the guy on his way very unhappy with the garage that had just given his car a full service!

Must have been running on memory alone !!

Cannot fathom how people let their cars get in such a state, (must admit i've not seen a rotor that bad on a car in use), but I've seen similar things time an time again.

Of course many people rely entirely on garages to work on their motor and it's hard sometimes not to think that the 'trade' deserves its reputation - at least in some cases.
