Accessory update!

Post by foggyjames » 13 Aug 2004 02:37 am

Hey chaps,

Well I thought it was time I updated you on my accessory hunting antics!

I've managed to track down one of these (thanks for the picture to the V3C)

Image

As you can see, its a 'mark 2' front valance from the bodykit. Here, it's seen on a mark 3, but it was designed to suit the earlier car. I'm not sure how it'll look on my car, and I'd rather have the later style one, but in time maybe I can sell / give / swap it.

Secondly....know the 'cash register / till' "driving computer"? Well my chum has got one! You'd be sick if you knew what he paid for it... I'm sure you'll be hearing more about that in time...and it might even be for sale if it won't work in his 740.

Finally....I have some bad news to report....and a warning. The Haynes manual says you can remove the mirror glass on a car with electric mirrors. It lies. You can't...not without breaking the mechanism anyway, as I found out to my horror earlier. However, I did find out that my electric mirror set (being fitted tomorrow...well...the passenger side anyway!!) is heated too - hurrah!

cheers

That's an interesting accessory...

Is it a joke? How do you change the glass then when it's broken?? Ooo what a panic now cause a friend bought electric mirrors for me in France with broken glasses and I said "no problem", just need to change that... I hope you are wrong!!!! For the heating, it's strange cause it was included in all electrical mirrors normaly (or not??)

Well I followed the haynes instructions...and I now have a very broken mirror! Its the way they're built - I can't see how you can possibly take them to bits. The motors were 'rigged up' before the glass was stuck on...and its VERY hard to remove the glass from its carrier (haynes tell you to remove the carrier too - certainly not possible).

I suspect this procedure works on manual mirrors, but not the electric ones. Sorry dude...

I heard that some electric ones weren't heated...but I don't know for sure.

cheers

You'll have to give me a day or two, as one of my chums has pinched my digicam!

No problem! Thanks to you and your friend! I also need to "rent" the camcorder of a friend when I want to take a picture outside

Aymat....I've been very lazy....I took the pics, but I haven't uploaded them. Remind me in a day or two, and I'll do it!

In the meantime, if you've got busted glass ones, I can chuck a passenger side on in the headlight wiper parcel if you stick another £5 my way. It's got a busted mounting, so it vibrates a bit at speed, but its fine otherwise - not loose or anything - it just can bend backwards and forwards now....and its VERY cheap ;)

cheers

Ohhhhh you have the pics!! May I ask you to upload them? sm11 sm40

The electric mirrors are now travelling in a box from France sm12 to Belgium and I'll have them at the end of the week sm69

Thanks for the "spare" glass if it's broken on mine, I'll tell you that when I'll receive the package. But..... Problem!! Passenger mirror in UK = driver mirror here. The passenger mirror on the 360 models reduces the picture and the driver not... > it would be strange
