Hi
http://www.gcp.se/
This is a company part owned by Volvo and significantly supported by them who are supplying parts for older Volvos. The have access to the original design drawings and often use the same supplier. Materials used are often upgraded.
The 340 has now been added with some of the more common parts now available. You need a parts manual to decipher their catalog though!
Clutchs were added last month even though you can still get them from seleted parts suppliers.
Mac, you could sell you gaskets to these guys!
I know the company has close links with the PV club of Sweden ( volvo also gave this club the remaining copies of the PV service manuals from the archives - of course they kept one of each in the archive to be preserved. Copies of such manual can be obtained by contact Volvo customer support in Sweden. The management team there all have access to the archive and can help. Just in case you get an unhelpful reply, just resend and ask for your case to be referred to a manager ( new staff sometimes arent 100% knowledgable )
I think the resource and numbers we have in this club mean we could submit part requests to GCP if there is enough demand. If we compile a list of common parts we need that we cant make ourselves easily ( water pumps... etc ) we could send this to GCP. This club has over 200 members now? more??
GCP was setup with Volvo as an evolution of their recycling project called ECRIS. Since Ford took over, Volvo has moved the boundary of the vehicles that GCP will be suppling parts for. It used to stop at the 140 but now seems to approach 340s and 240s as well.
Smart move Volvo. This doesnt affect their books too much ( ie Ford critical eye!! ) but allows good parts supply ( mayb not ideal but still good ) for owners of older Volvos.
Duriing 2000 Volvo announced the opening of GCP through the Volvo cars magazine and the website. I think the 120 and PV clubs knew about it but it seems to have slipped under the radar of newer car club
enjoy your Volvos!
