360 GL>360 GLT?

Hi! I bought a 360 GL '87 (B200E engine) a month ago, but I haven't got the chance to know the car yet because I am going for the certificate first time the 13th of February. Even so, I have already fallen in love with it! Well, the thing is that I have a friend who has this Saab 900 turbo engine (from the same year) left over, and I was wondering if it is possible to fit the turbo from it into my engine and if it is too hard to do it myself?

The turbo from the saab is a nice daily driver turbo as it is quite small and spools quickly giving nice smooth power.

It is not all that difficult to fit if you know how.

You have to keep in mind it is not just fitting the turbo that is involved (including oil feed pipes, manifold, exhaust and air pipes) but you need to fuel the engine for the extra air. If using carbs this involves loads of setting up - fuel injection is the best way but this ruqires a lot of time and knowledge to do as well.

Hi. Im the guy with the Turbo he was talking about. I guess that it takes some electical wireing as well to fit in a turbo charger. I guess the easiest way is to get a complete turbo engine and swap them over.
But it would be nice if someone here could post some links with some info about this.

Best regards. Johan

The common conversion is to fit the 2.3 turbo engine complete from the 7/900 volvo turbos. The conversion is mainly bolt in.

Fuse on here has a lot of info on doing the conversion.

Lucky lucky man! Glad he's ok, that looked very nasty indeed. The Volvo did stand up well. I couldn't translate the page very well :P, so could you provide us with some more info please chap!? It's be interesting to know more of the facts. What sort of speeds were involved, I see 80 kph possibly.......?

Good thing it was Volvo and not some Japanese car of that age, they did really not have very good crash safety until later at 90's when safety stuff started really to take off.

Of course with 240 it would not been even that bad, but it is a tank compared to cars from that Ford era.

You should note that Volvo has been cut by fire department there, so it looks bit worse than it had been originally.

Speed of impact has not been 80kph, quite impossible, more like 50kph I would say, but of course hard to know, anyway if you compare to crash tests you can see how much cars deform if impact is at 65kph (or something like that what test speeds were) and as this looks like to be similar impact to those it should be that speeds were less than at crash tests.

Great to hear he is ok, almost miracle to survive from that.

I need soon start driving really a lot (even 6000km in a month) and again news like this are making me considering that I would change car to 740TD as things do happen and It would be safest car in that price range...
