for those that thought this was a good swap - its basically an audi transaxle mounted at the back , and still has a big bellhousing fitted .

I don't recall the 924 box specifically being suggested as a swap? I thought it was a transaxle from one of the more powerful Porsches.. 928?

The Porche 924 axle won't give any great benifits its very weak. A Porche 928 or Alfa 75 one would be better.

Or you could run a g50 from a 911 upside down. or any number of audi, alfa or renault transaxles if they're physically small enough to fit under the boot floor.

You're looking at £2-3k for a 911 transaxle though, and they're stupendously long geared. The renaullt transaxles are great as you can easily flip em upsidedown, however they're expensive. The alfa transaxle is cheaper, and I know of a guy running a 320bhp rover v8 + 280hp nitrous through one and its never gone bang.

Long gears are great for turbo cars.. If the revs dont drop below the power area?

The alfa has a rear clutch .

as does the 928 IIRC , renault or porsche 911 , diff turned upside down would be my choice .

Where's the clutch on a 944? I'm sure the turbo version ran meaty mechanicals out the back which would be easily enough for our needs
