Just thought people may be interested to see how a 360 GLT (1986 D) stands up to a heavy side impact! As I remember it the driver was unhurt after doing a U-turn on a busy road in the path of another vehicle.

Interesting pictures! The 300 is indeed a very solid car!
When did that black 360 have the accident, looks like its been like that a while, that rear alloy wheel looks like new!!
I take it this is the donor car for my rear bumper

It must have been over 8 years ago! The alloys aren't bad on it actually, it hasn't really rusted or deteriorated much at all, just the green has appeared in places! Yes Steve, it is indeed the donor for your bumper, you can just see the white inner part of the bumper through the rear door.
Seeing something like this gives me even more faith in the strength of the 300's and Volvo's safety, so I thought I'd share it with the rest of you.

I noticed the rear bumper in the back after posting!
It doesn't look to have rusted much atall, apart from the places involved in the accident - I guess its not a bad place to be in for a crash compared to similar aged cars!
Pete, do you happen to have the square plastic surround around the cigarette lighter also? As mine is cracked and has two holes, which looks pretty shabby!
Cheers,
Steve

Oh question, the GLT panel for the left rear door is in good condition?

There was a survey of crash safety post here a while back - interestingly in these statistics Mk2 Golfs and 300s kept up with modern cars like Astras, Audi A3s and new Golfs for crash survivability, even without the airbags, seatbelt pretensioners, etc.
cheers

Duvel, the left rear door is in pretty good condition from memory, however I will check in daylight! The door trim and handle, central locking motor etc have been removed!

5lab and James, that car is currently in the front garden! Well spotted James, it is indeed a tractor!

There are a few too many cars in the garden! My Dad increased his Volvo Amazon collection over the weekend as well, so my Mum is not best pleased!

James, the Amazons are fantastic to drive, I just wish I could get reasonable insurance for one! So far I've been quoted silly money, or I'd have one for myself! Pete
