Using a 340 transaxle in a different car.

I'm thinking of building a hot rod using a Clio 16v engine and a 340 transaxle and torque tube. I've been reading up and it says you need a 1.7 Bellhousing, sump, clutch and engine mountings. As its not going into a 340, will I get away with just using the 1.7 Bellhousing and clutch?
Also, how much do the various parts needed sell for?

What differences are there with the sump? Theres an abandoned 340 over the road gonna see if I can get it. Does anybody know the overall height of the 16v engine?

Yeah, that was me.
I bottled out when I realised you wernt using a 340 as a complete base.
So my advice was probly way off!

Only thing I'd be thinking about and looking into is oil starvation when the engine is mounted round the right way with the clio sump, other than that, you're on the right lines dude.

No reason not to mount the clio engine at its normal angle.
You will also need the 1.7 clutch cable or similar

Well i've just taken the dog for a walk past the abandoned 340 and its a 1.7 model. Gonna knock on the owners door and try to procure it should be perfect for my needs - its rusty as feck so not worth saving.

Do it Matt, it's within your capabilities. Someone used 340 running gear in a locost type thing and it ran, but we never found out whether it got on the road. 340 16v conversions go like stink so a hot rod would be fabulous. If you need any help with the finer points I can offer advice on the bolting together side of things.

I've owned a couple of Clio 16v's and hybrids in the past. My last 16v ran a 14.9 @ 99mph with a stock engine, de-cat and the interior stripped, so in a lightweight hot rod I reckon it'd crack the 13s easy, especially with RWD too.
Has anybody got a photo of a 1.7 sump? I want to see what the engine mounts are like on them.

I'm taking my F7P out tonight and I was going to take some detailed photos of the setup anyway, seeing as people are always asking about how to fit them. The front engine mounts (1 on the sump, 1 low on the block) are nice and equally spaced so you could adapt them to fit any front clip you liked. It's all very straightforward.
