Chunky door trims stop morons banging their doors into yours, but a heavy price to pay if you don't like them

I quite like them if they are already on a car, I do however prefer them NOT to be there, the very early cars often had no trim whatsoever and the the lines look cleaner BUT that center line on the panels dents very easily and looks bad. On that car I'd leave them well alone, part of the GLT character

My 340 has them for some reason, I remember when I saw it for sale on autotrader at first I thought it was a GLT!

I prefer the chunky door trims, but only with body coloured bumpers as the line flows so well from the bumper centre along the doors to the rear bumper.
It's the one thing I really want to get on Fake, rather than mk3 340 ones.
Andy, late 1.4's/1.7's got them, my 91 has.

Very clean n tidy car. I'm a fan of door trims, break up the colour a bit, and like HD said, stopping people from dinging the door. I was sitting in the car when someone did it to me!
Slightly lowered and some period wheels might be cool, but like you said, it's so perfect.

Chunky door trims are cool, alwyas liked them, flow with the bumpers as Chris says. Always thought a good looks improvement from the thinner older versions (in the day).
Keep it as standard and look after it, it is a rareity and unique already. Rust proofing the most important thing, but I'm guessing its been sorted already.

You'll never get them off cleanly without pulling paint off, leaving residue everywhere etc... When I scrapped my last GLT saloon due to rust (everywhere)... I ended up crowbaring them off (didn't care about the doors) and it was still a fair bit of effort haha.
Seriously, keep that GLT original - with only 17k it looks *great* as it is, you've got plenty of other 300's to be tweaking about

If you're not happy with it let me know

They can be removed slowly with a bit of heat and maybe a blade to cut into the sticky foam, then solvent to remove the residue.

Piano wire or strong fishing line will do the trick nicely. Saw through the foam with the piano wire/fishing line. Acryl paint cleaner will get rid of the residue and doesn't harm the paint surface.
But I would keep the door trims.
