Good work tom, looks like a nice set of repairs! In some ways that car is remarkably tidy!

Nice work Tom - that car is really coming on.

I'm looking forward to getting a new DD so I can do a bit of that kind of thing!

Re: trabitom99's 343 Touring now has TÜV :-)

Post by trabitom99 » 25 May 2009 05:15 pm

My little 343 now has it's MOT for another two years, and I'm over the moon :-) Just two advisories - one of the braided fuel lines going to the carb is a little frayed, and the battery plus pole doesn't have a plastic cap on it (WTF :-o ?).

But that doesn't stop me feeling really, really chuffed. 1000 thanks to Rainer from the DAF IG who really put a lot of hours in towards the end.

A few restauration pics will follow, but here're some of the car as it stands now:

I bought it thinking "this'll be a laugh until the MOT runs out" but it feels really satisfying to have given it a new lease of life. Even if my own input was negligible (the DAF guys really were a massive help).

main problem with the stock fuell lines, is that they were not ment for use with unleaded fuell.. 25+ years of experience does the rest

Epic win! I see my attempts to get the TUV man to refuse to pass it unless the Scirocco spoiler was removed (and posted to me) failed...

:D :D :D
The spoilers (front and rear) are all nicely declared in the car's papers, there's little he could've said about it ;-)

I did a bit of research on that spoiler - it really comes from a Mk1 Scirocco!
Image

There is one on Ebay US ATM
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 0375424054
but I'm sure it's not hard to find in Europe if you wait a bit ...

It seems there is no such thing as a "Volvo 300-series MkI rear spoiler", Volvo's own ones only appeared with the MkII 360 GLT. Before that, the wider Zender spoiler was fitted - the Oettinger, the Touring, the R-Sport versions of the MkI all have the cutout for the bootlid button.

Oh yeah, I checked that a while ago...definitely mk1 Scirocco. I've had an eBay search set up for a while, but UK only. DUH!

Shipping on large items from the US is abusive...but I'll look into it.

cheers
