The 240 calipers are great. I measured them up ages ago and they are a perfect fit. The problem I originaly had was I intended to use 240 disks and hubs with them. What size are the golf discs? Also how do they bolt on?

256mm x 22mm carlton discs are what i will be trying with girling calipers!
sounds strange but i believe u can use granada or jaguar pads, but this depends on what discs u use i think. the manta boys use the following :
Discs: MKI Carlton 2000i (77-81)
Callipers: Volvo 240 Girling
Pads Ford MkII Granada 2.8i / P100 Pickup
Locating Pins: Granada 2.8i (without modifying pads). Volvo 240 (drill out holes in pads to accept pins).
and they say :
"If using volvo 4 pots Mintex mgb522 pads have no overhang at all with the 256 disc but do need the grinder to the leading edge these pads are standard fitment on such things as xj12 rear lotus excell jensen intercepter and a black cab ."
and :
"260mm Vented brake disc are PERFECT for the volvo 4 pots and elimate any pad overhang and do away with the need to use smaller pads."

Had a play with these calipers 2nite and i cant see its going to be easy, infact its impossible on the 280mm disks as there is just no room to mount them!!! And if you keep the standard centre line of the disk then the calipers wont mount anyway!!
Has anyone got any successful pics of these mounted????
Cheers Adam

I've just lighned up some 240 non vented calipers onto the 3 strut. The capiler does not mate up with the bracket but lighns up with it. This would be ok with big discs as you could use a spacer plate to throw the capliper away from centre.

I really wouldnt advise changing the centre line on a 300 strut!!! The bearings are far too small so you would put an uneven load on them and they would fail!!! The bearings are a big problem on the 300 for competition use as they are the same on a Daf 33 for god sake!!!

I didn't mean it like that. What I was getting it is witha big dia disc you need the caliper further away from the centre of the spline. The disc centre wants to stay as close as possible to original.
I think a change of hub would be worth while - just what ones and bearings?

The 240 caliper is a real old school caliper. Good ones are becoming harder to get hold of. There are still loads around but they do tend to be ready for rebuild! It is possible to use this caliper on a 300 but not simple.

Hasnt anyone ever tried just using Mintex 1144 compound pads and some dot 5.1? I use this setup on my trackday 360 and it performs admirably both on the streets and on the track. Had a trackday on wednesday, and had literally ZERO fade, and plenty of stopping power. Doesnt wear out too fast either. This was without the brake cooling ducting I usually put on the car for track use. Managed too outbrake lighter cars like a fiesta xr2i with ferodo DS2500 pads on it.
I can imagine that the big brakes will look very nice, but I think they might just make it more difficult to modulate the braking force, and throw off your brake balance.

Yep, tried that on my old GLT. Did one road rally and they just about coped. Did another and they gave up forcing us to retire
