Post by Baba » 07 Aug 2008 06:47 pm

Hi guys,

Just wanting opinions from anyone that has the Land Rover shocks.

How much stiffer are they compared to the standard?

Thanks for your time :)

I bought a pair of gas LR shocks when in devon last week :D

has anyone run these on the standard springs? i got to thinking that if the shocks are too stiff then will the springs have the strength to over come the weight of the car and this added stiffness? wont i end up sitting low at the back all the time?

on a plus note, £20 each! bargain :D

After looking at marks car, I was definitely wrong - they are pretty overdamped for the car, probably because they have some extra "preload" in them to cope with the weight of a landy and not specifically the actual compression and rebound damping forces. Either way, I reckon they are quite a bit too much for the standard springs.

I paid 59 Euros for them IIRC. I've seen them go for around 100 before, but no more than that ...

in answer - "MUCH stiffer" if you get the ones i did - LR90 front shocks, Gas

there is a SLIGHT issue of needing stronger springs, which would give a better recoil rate but i've driven brand new cars that aren't as sure on the back as mine is now.

oh, the exhaust still knocks, but thats a whole other issue

well worth £20 ea, which is what i got 'em for.

They seemed as though they were mega overkill (and wrong) for the standard springs,..

agreed - uprated springs required if possible.

my point was that they have improved the responsiveness of the back end of the car no end. Its better that than the shagged ones that WERE on it, they were anhilated...

no-one has managed to tell me where i can get stronger springs from, or whether you can double layer them etc. For now im running standard springs. or 'ruIning' standard springs, no doubt

they work ok at the mo, and theres some pretty savage speedbumpery near me

I've been looking into getting a set retempered, look at what the escort rally guys do, they have the same problem. I havn't had spare pennies to enquire lately though :(
