Steering rack ends - Are they knackered?

Just taken off my tie rod ends and wondering if to change my steering rack ends. How can you tell if they need changing. or wheter they are o.k. Can anyone advise please :360:

Give them some hefty pulls, if there is *any* linear play they need changing

There is a really small bit of play.....but then my vibration damper is also snapped too

It's quite hard to explain, when you hold the steering rack in one hand and the tie rod in the other, it should rotate freely about the balljoint (like your elbow, but with 2 degrees of freedom). If you try to pull the tie rod away from the steering rack though, you shouldn't be able to.

There should be no visible or audible movement (clunking) between the surfaces in the joint.
