Anyone got a pic or drawing handy of how the column bolts into the car! I'll be damed if I can find a home for the skinny brace/support bar, even though I know where it should go lol.

Anything later than a mk1 should be the same. Help appreciated, Liam.

Hi mate.
The colome is bolted to the inside of the bulkhead with a bar
stretching of to the right. Havn't got a photo but i did take one out
recently. It was a bitch of a job.Wires tangled about everywhere.

Cheers Mark. No wires here, so that's one thing to be thankful of, but I know what you mean. I remember the interior loom being wrapped around it!

To the right is where I have been trying to place it, can't find a threaded hole anywhere though? Only ones I can see on the top part (inner scuttle) are for the main part of the column bracketry and to the right, one with a white plastic plug which iirc is for the dash?

Do I need to be looking on the inner scuttle area or on the bulkhead itself? Also, where does it mount to the column, to the hole on the welded on bracket around the middle?
Depsite keeping all of the fixings together and even taking a pic, none of this is much use as I can't find the pic, and I had the chassis leg to bulkhead brace bar in with the column stuff, so was even more confused before a phone call to FJ.

This is made a little more awkward by the fact I need to remake the top bracket for the column, as when I removed the 360 ignition switch, the top support had to go too. So atm, it can't support itself properly there.

Damn it. This shoudl be/is so simple. Help! All I want it it bolted in so I can see where it lies in relation to the seat.

Hi mate.
That bar stretching of to the right attaches onto the middle somewhere.
I would just fiddle around untill i found the right whole

Just looked through mine, can't see any that would help. There are a few drifty threads on here where people have stripped interiors and dashes though, they'd have what you need!

Andy, if you could that would be much appreciated. Need to know where the brace bar picks up on the column, and where it bolts to the bulkhead.

I'm wondering now if I've already taken out the brace in question in this pic. It was 2 months ago when I was at this stage and I can't remember whats gone. I'll have to take plenty of photos when I strip the Mk 1 so I know where it all goes!

Yep you appear to have took it out, but the pics are useful anyway! I don't have the column bolted to the pedal box, that explains what the nut and bolt is for, and also the orientation of the column at least. Hopefully when it's sitting where it should be then I cannot fail to locate the brace bar. Err right?
