360 PAS conversion?

Hi all.

Now I know this has probably been done to death before, but the search function... Well, either it's a bit shit or I've offended it somehow!!

Anyway, I'm toying with buying an early-ish :360: GLS which, as far as I'm aware, won't have power steering.

Being the kind of guy that would rather have some feeling in the steering and have to fight the wheel when going sideways, this wouldn't bother me. Mrs. Sideways however would be less than happy with such a scenario!

So, I'm thinking a PAS conversion would be the order of the day, purely to shut her up.

Questions:

What would be involved?

Is it literally a case of fitting a pump and rack from a later PAS equipped car?

Is there a drilling etc there for mounting the pump even on early blocks?

Thanks in advance guys :)

It's a bit shite Steve.

See this post http://www.volvo300mania.com/forum-uk/v ... ch#p177230 and learn how to do a Google site search.

1) you have to find the bits.
2) you can whinge and moan when you can't find any replacement steering arms for the ends of the rack.

Non PAS is light enough if nowt is knackered. Send Mrs Sideways to a hypnotherapist, it's all in her head. Or just tell her it's aleady got PAS.

Hello Sir, it'll need a modified or the correct PAS exhaust down pipe (which isn't obtainable new, as far as I know) but new non-PAS ones can be beaten into shape with a bit of heat applied (year 8 of my blog). Ta, bogbasic.

Its common on 120's etc but no one has done it on a 300 yet that I am aware of.

I vaguely remember some chat about it some time ago. Wasn't sure if anyone actually went ahead with it.

Pump, rack, hoses, downpipe - done. Personally wouldn't bother unless you parallel park all the time. It's light on the move.

Hi Mark,

Not got it yet, but that's the one I'm after.

Just trying to figure out the logistics of getting it home from Essex to Manchester, then finding somewhere to put it 'til I can get it MOT'd.

Lots of things standing in the way at the minute...

I need a 360 in my life!! :(

Good luck with it :) Try shiply - you'll be able to get an estimate, shouldn't be any more than £200 or so
