How are front springs rated? I've seen springs at '220 lbs' etc...what exactly is that measuring? how much force to compress the spring by 1 inch?
What is the 'poundage' of a standard 340 front spring, so I can try and find something stiffer? (or know what to ask for!)
Cheers,

Exactly.

The spring ratio (that's what it's called) is very weak on the 300's. I never measured but people in the forum say around 100lbs/in.

Tom,
let me know what engine you are running, desired ride hight and what road types the car is to be used on I can can work out the best suited spring for your needs.

Hi Dai,
I'll be using the car for fast road, and eventually track use. At the moment, I've got some springs from a capri, 190lbs/inch, which I'll be putting in later in the week.
At the rear, I now have double leafed springs, -2" blocks, and some monroe gas-a-just shocks, which are going on today.
I'm not sure if the capri springs will raise or lower the car, so they may end up being unsuitable!

I chopped down a second set of springs from a volvo 300. The 'nub' was then removed from the original set, (which are just left in place on the car).
The seconds leaf was then fitted underneath, and held in place by friction. They've only just gone on, so I can't comment on how the handling's changed. With the double leaf, and the new shocks, the back end is now much stiffer.

Dai,
I have the same question. I've heared you advice people 220 LBS for circuit use, in combination with koni front shocks.
I have a 360 and koni fronst shocks.
I
don't want to use the car on the circuit, but want to use it on normal (dutch) roads, so that are quite good roads

also there will come 15 inch rims on it (now 13 inch GLE alloys)
I'd like that the car is as stiff as our V40, compared with a 360 it corners really well and at the same time is is comfortable.
How hard do you think my springs should be?
I want to drop the car by 2 cm, but maybe it's better to keep the original height (due to front spoiler).
Cheers,
Mark

Hi Mark,
I'll do some working out for you and see what length and poundage would be needed. I'll send you a PM with the details.

Hi Dai,
I haven't heart anything yet, but maybe I have in the near future some parts to ship. So it would be nice if it all could come at once
Cheers,
Mark
