boss?

Post by Tom bailey » 27 Oct 2009 03:21 am

Is there a universal or another manufacturers boss which fits on the 340 which is relatively cheap?

AFAIK the boss almost always needs to be from the same manufacturer as the steering wheel. The bolt patterns vary widely from make to make ...

Cheers

Old style Pug 205 boss fits and operates safely. standard momo, omp, sparko, mountney pcd pattern.
But they dont retain horn or inc canx functions.
Do a forum search for modding method.

Mega fail, Tom ;-)

In Germany, boss and wheel have to be from the same manufacturer though, otherwise MOT fail (same with non-cancelling indicators). They're pretty tough on stuff like that unfortunately :-(

^^ that IS a bit extreme.
Surely the big question should be 'are thet safe to use and secure?'
Not
'Are they from the same manufacturer?' :?

There was a big article about steering wheels and bosses recently in a German classic car mag, and their message was "make sure boss and wheel are the same make or TÜV fail". Their line of thinking is, if they're not from the same manufacturer then they won't have been thoroughly tested in thousands of miles of desert pistes to make sure both parts work in perfect harmony with each other.

Or something along those lines.

Whenever you go to your English or Dutch MOT man, and are annoyed about this that or the other, just think of your poor forum collegues over in Germany-land. Home-made side exhaust? A spoiler, steering wheel, lowering kit without a manufacturers' certificate of roadworthyness? T5 engine swap? No chance :-( Things like the PPC "road legal tank-engined Rover SD-1" are just wishful thinking here.

Having said that, the Swiss are a whole lot worse, so I'm told.

Youre right Tom.
Its my DUTY to go side exit.
And I should exersize my right to do a backstreet 2.3 turbo swap.
If not for myself, but for all the poor oppressed people still stug behind the David Hasslehoff wall in Eastern Germany.

I'll do it Tom.
For you.
And for FREEDOM!.

Seriously.
Im doing it.
AND my boss doesnt match my wheel.
Take THAT Angela Merkel.

Dont know the specifics Tom.
At a guess, i'd say the early years when 300 production was running.
So eighties as opposed to nineties and later.
Dont know for sure when the 205 model changes occured though.

Yup.
Youd have to mod it to keep the horn function.
