Water Ingress

Hi Chaps,
today removed the interior to check for any rot under carpets, no rot
But, water in foot wells, lots in fact, but carpet felt dry from above, the insulation under the foot pads and seats is soaked but came out easy and will dry, which is more than can be said for the bulk head soundproofing which was sodden and came to pieces when I removed it!
My first thought was sunroof, but seats and floor trays totally dry, all the windows are closed, I know water gets into the boot, hence rusty wheel well , but theres no way for it to reach the front foot wells!
So I suspect a leaky windscreen
Please enlighten me with your experience if you have any other theories!
ps this car may soon be for sale, soon to be drifting near you

Hi,
door seals seem in excellent condition, Ive just sealed the sunroof just to make sure its not that that is leaking, now Ive got to source some new sound proofing to put back on face of footwell before I refit the full interior!
Then the next job is getting someone to weld a new passenger sill on, and many muchness of welding around the car, how much do welders charge per day?
Anyway back to the water!

Get the hose out and get a friend to soak the car while you look around under the dash for dribbles.
Water can get in front ways under the corner of the bit the windscreen bodywork hits the wing. There is a drain underneath, that could lead to water in A pillars, and rust could lead to ingress that way.

Also your heater drainage tube could be blocked as mine was. is little bit under black heater element. water can well up and enter car through flap in firewall under much rain

Get some cheap talc and puff it over the carpets. The water will wash it away showing where it comes from.

Hi mate.
I would go with the mate and hose pipe thing. That way you could see it comming in.
Cheers Mark.

In my 340 problem was gap between two halfs of heating box (big black with fan inside) as water drips directly on that seam from air louvres above it..
And sponge like big round spacer between heater box and bulkheadhas turned to dust.
Found water droplets from air ducts.
But water drip inside only when car is parked on slope with nose up. On flat no problem.
Solved with aluminium duct tape used for HVAC pipes sealing, 50mm wide.

Mine has the same problem however its only the passenger side, its the windscreen seal. Mine isnt in with any sealing goo and it doesnt have the spreader strip in it. The water runs down the screen on the outside, round the edge inside the seal and the runs/drips out the inside, absolutely soaks the inside of the car, and runs all the way down my speakers etc, its quite annoying. you can see the seal with the dash in place - check that out too

Hi Chaps,
think I may have found the source of the leak!
At the top corner of the windscreen at the drivers side about 3 inches each way from the corner the inner seal is totally rotten, which is letting water in!
The rest of the inner seal appears fine, so dont know why its gone just over this 6 inch section!
Im going to guess these seals are no longer available, so is it just a question of squirting some bath sealant in?
anyone else with this problem, how have you fixed it?
Cheers Jason
