Overlooking the Obvious

Post by wjp01908 » 01 Apr 2005 12:41 pm

My 340 1.4 has been giving me grief over the last few days - usual lack of power, lumpy idle etc. etc. - some days fine, others nearly undrivable...

Carb from hell I thought.

Had the whole thing out cleaned checked and tightened went OK for a bit then just as bad. Repeat. Repeat again.

New dizzy cap and rotor arm - OK for a bit then bad again.

Thought I`d check the ignition - out came the Renix, cleaned and electrically tested, all OK - did the sensor etc.

Hadn`t checked the plugs as yet as they were only 2 months old as were the leads - go to remove number 3 and the lead just falls apart in my hand leaving the connector on the plug looking very corroded and blackened.

20 quid later for a new set of leads and it`s going like there was never a problem.

MORAL:

Even "new" parts can pack up. It isn`t always the carb!

Anyone want to race me at "field stripping" a Weber carb?

Will
