Hi guys I have a 340 1.7 with a Williams F7R lump in it and my clutch has just gone!
So far I have worked out I have to buy a new 1.7 clutch and bolt it to my Renault flywheel but I'm having trouble as there is lots of different clutches for a 1.7 many with different spline sizes.
I read somewhere the Renault uses a 26 spline affair and the 1.7 is 20 splines, am I right?
Just too add some more confusion there is a 26 spline 1.7 clutch marked as non b172 I have found too.
Could somebody please help my out as I desperately need my car and cannot afford to buy several clutches! My reg is E188 GFT if this helps, cheers
340 F7R clutch help please!

Re: 340 F7R clutch help please!
All Volvo 340 1.7 clutches are the same and are all you need in an F7 conversion. The spline thing is a mislisting in a parts catalogue that has unfortunately stuck, it has been discussed before here and been concluded that they are all the same. Have a search of the old threads or count yours to determine which is right.
When you do your clutch make sure there is a spigot bearing in the centre of your flywheel. This bearing locates the clutch shaft and isn't used by the Clio/R19s gearbox so can be missed out from an F7 engine swap with disastrous consequences! Get one from Dai.
If you haven't taken it apart and something has obviously broken in the drivetrain are you sure it is the clutch? The propshafts are a weak link if the engine/gearbox are not properly aligned/have worn mounts. I was convinced a cheap clutch I got off ebay had exploded on me after a bit of enthusiastic driving less than a week after fitting it. I only found it was the prop when I took it off, no doubt the removal/refitting of the prop and extra clamping power of a non-slipping clutch didn't help the prop!

Re: 340 F7R clutch help please!
You are right, most of the clutches for this engine are 26 spline (Renaults, 440/460/480's) where as 1.7 300's have a 20spline on a 7/8" dia, same as old Fords.
The ebay listings/motor factors that tell you it could be either 20 or 26 are either wrong, or that only existed in one car that non of us have found yet
There has not been a "non B172" 1.7 340.
Make sure you get a 3 piece kit, the clutch release bearings get tired.

Re: 340 F7R clutch help please!
basically I bought the car with the engine and box already fitted and I have been driving the car for a few months. The clutch has definitely gone as its been slipping and getting smelly for a while. I have not taken anything apart yet as iv only got 1 day on my mates drive to fit a new clutch and a new box i have bought with a welded diff fitted. I just Need to buy a new clutch but I don't know which one to buy!
