Hello,
I am finally trying to sort out my 1.4 (1988) which has the weber carb. A few years ago I replaced the cut-off solenoid because the old one kept failing and the car would cut-out on idle. However when I fitted the new solenoid, the car idled fine, but the engine won't stop when I turn it off (unless I put it into 4th gear momentarily).
Since the usual cause of dieseling is carbon deposits, I tried a few doses of redex and carb cleaner through the plug holes, etc, and apart from setting the engine on fire (another story), it still diesels as much as before.
What I am thinking is that the new solenoid may not be the correct one..... I seem to remember the bit that pops in and out looked a bit different to the old one.
Could I have been given the wrong solenoid by the carby specialist.... it had the same outer appearance, thread, etc, just looked a bit different at the sliding rod end?
Bests, bogbasic.

Re: Calling weber carb buffs
I was looking at the Green Book (see technical section) yesterday about this. It may be that the replacment isn't working as it should and shutting idle circuit supply off properly when de-energised.

The man's a genius. Indeed the 'new' solenoid isn't working at all. I tested it today and it is permanently dead.

Hopefully another good solenoid will get you back in business again.
tip: never rule a new part as being bad.
