F7R clutch combination
F7R clutch combination
Hiya guys, wondering if i could pick your brains about the clutch to flywheel combination for putting a renault F7R engine into my 1990 340 GL 1.7.I have had a search through previous posts and the answer mainly seems to be to use the renault flywheel along with the volvo clutch assembly however I removed the renault clutch assembly and went to put the volvo 1.7 clutch on the F7R flywheel and the mounting bolt spacings were way out, I noticed that the volvo flywheel will mount to the renault crankshaft but would this give me a different ignition trigger pattern ( using the renault crankshaft position sensor)?, either that or if I were to put the renault pressure plate onto the renault flywheel and then the 1.7 clutch plate in between however it doesnt sit exactly flush with the pressure plate/ flywheel and it wouldn't give me the full amount of friction that I would need to be able to put the power down and I would imagine it would just get hot, warp and knacker the clutch in a few minutes of driving. any help would be greatly appreciated.
Many thanks, Chris

Re: F7R clutch combination
You sure you have a 1.7 clutch? I had no problems fitting mine. Are you centring the friction plate?

Have a gander at this:

Images of how the clutch goes together.

Re: F7R clutch combination
I'm guessing, as you are saying that changing the flywheel would change the trigger pattern, that you have a Megane F7R not a clio one?
Use whatever flywheel is easiest for your management system, then worry about the clutch from that.

Re: F7R clutch combination
Hiya cheers for the fast replies, and I have been following that guide and it has helped me out tremendously but it was just that clutch part that has varied so far. And i'm using a clutch from the b172k engined volvo and it looks identical to the one in the pictures but the mounting bolt holes are nearly an inch away from the renault flywheel holes, and yes I am doing the megane 2.0 16v F7R and i think i will try and pop the bell housing off tomorrow and fit the renault flywheel with renault pressure plate and volvo clutch plate just to see if i can get it to fire in time, because at the moment i have the engine in, wired up , immobiliser off and im getting fuel, spark and air and all I get is a series of backfires/misfires/knocks and pinks so I think i will try with the megane flywheel and see if it improves and then see what i can get to work by mix and matching flywheels and clutches thank you very much for you help.
Re: F7R clutch combination
Hiya guys just thought I would update you with some good news i fitted the renault flywheel with renault clutch cover and volvo pressure plate and it seems to grip well (just hope it releases as well) but since fitting the renault flywheel the engine sprung into life on the first turn of the key so that has made my day so far. we shall see how it handles when i get the clutch cable and prop shaft back on and the coolant routed round the engine bay.
Re: F7R clutch combination
Awesome stuff.
I know little about the size of the Megane clutch, but from memory the ECU on the Megane is a 60-2 where as the 1.7 in the 340 and the Clio F7x are all 22-2-22-2.
How did you get the immobiliser knocked out of the ECU? I'm getting half tempted to make the move over from Fenix to that atm.

Re: F7R clutch combination
The immobiliser is still in the ecu i havent tried to remove it as it seemed more hassle than it was worth, but I bought the megane as a running car and then stripped it out into 2 looms, one for the engine sensors and ecu and the other for all the interior wiring (which I still have to sort through to work out what i can get rid of as I have a whole mess of wires at the moment) including the immobiliser module, located on top of the steering column and then still using the infra red plip remote to cancel the immobiliser when i want to start the car. Im currently looking at customizing the central locking to fit into the volvo doors so it unlocks using the plip remote but im not sure how im going to do that yet.
But to answer your question i havent removed it from the wiring I just achieved it to accept the code from the infra red remote which was good enough for me.
