Suffer from gearbox slap?

Post by 340GLT » 27 Jul 2005 12:28 am

Thats probably not the correct term to use but hey, i thought i would share this with you guys!!!
Does anyone hear a thud from the rear of their car when changing gear quickly? If they do i suggest they check the bushings at the rear crossmember!!
Image
They should look like the one on the right!! if you can see the bush hanging down, not quite as bad as the one on the left, then get them replaced!!! There are also two bushes at the front crossmember but they dont tend to take as much stick as the back ones!!! If any one wants info Re: the replacement of these then feel free to ask, but warning NOT for the faint hearted!!!! and NOT something you can do on your drive in half an hour!!!!
As for the smoother changes and no thud!!!
