Message from Chris Marchant:

Can you help with any advice? my daughters boyfriend has an F reg 340DL with only
27k on the clock, a few days ago he was driving up a hill when it lost all power and
eventually the oil light came on. He stoped and checked the oil and found that the
oil cap was missing and their was oil everywhere. he had to put just over a litre
of oil in the engine but when he started the engine it had a deep serious sounding
knock at the bottom towards the back, at this point he asked me for advice, it
sounded just like an end so we dropped the sup of and removed the big end caps but
to our suprise they were all fine!!

Its difficult to think what else could make this much noise, cam follower? main
bearing?

Have you any ideas?

Chris

If it's a DL, it's likely to be a 1.4 :)

Well no oil in the engine = engine seasing! When there is a lack of lubrication, metal on metal contact wares components, meaning that when the car was restarted something may have been destroyed or just warn away!
