Post by 360 turbster » 24 Oct 2006 09:32 pm

can anyone help ive just put my 2.3 turbo engine in my 360 glt 3dr im using 740 flywheel as it has the pick up for rpm sensor and tdc sensor but ive had to use the 360 clutch as 740 one is to big for torque tube, the 360 clutch was a little worn but when boost comes in clutch cant take it running 15psi if i run standard boost it seems ok but thats no good for me is there a uprated clutch i dont no of as i have phoned loads of companys but they dont list them will a new 360 clutch take it as it is alot of work just to take a gamble if it dont work cheers 360 turbster!

What make clutch to you have now. I remember with our old 360 that we had a couple of crap clutches in it. They did not last long at all. Then we put a borg & beck in then it was spot on.

Fuse should have the answer to what clutch is best.

Sintered 228mm disc from VW Golf is proven to fit, though it needs to be shimmed using washers so it works right.

Makkiver has 228mm Sachs Turbo pressure plate and 228mm sintered disc from VW Golf in his 360 TIC. I can't tell any specific specs about the power he is making (he tells them him self if he wants) but I can tell that setup like that will hold B23 with Holset HX40.. ;)

Would be nice to get a propper clutch kit for this conversion. I can see a lot more being done in the near future.

I would imagine it is the pressure plate that needs to be shimmed. I had to shim the one on my old saab 96.

I can ask Makkiver more specific detail and post here when he answers. :)

Sachs also makes stock size (210mm) sintered clutch discs for 360. Those should hold more power than stock disc, but I don't know how much it would hold with stock pressure plate. :P More than stock plate though.

I can also ask about shimming, I haven't done it my self so I don't know specific details, but basically it means that you have to get clutch and pressure plate in correct position, because new disc has different thickness than the stock disc.

Makkiver used normal 0.7 to 0.8mm washers as shimm plates to get things in correct position (Matching the original) and it worked fine.

If you don't use any shimm plates with disc which has different thickness, it might slip quite a bit. :P I guess basically it's "stock disc thickness" minus "new disc thickness" = "thickness needed for shimm plates" I might be wrong about this shimm thing also, but that is what I've figured how it works. :)

Btw. 360 turbster I'm sorry I haven't answered on your private messages, I've been bit busy with school and stuff so I have forgotten to check my private messages for a long time.. Glad you worked it out though! :)

I'll post Makkiver's reply here when he answers about the Golf disc.
