choke and running

Post by Vart » 20 Apr 2007 04:20 pm

choke has gone funny in my b14 340. theres one 'sweet spot' where it'll only judder a little bit and hold for up to seconds at a time at around 1200 rpm. the rest of the chokes movement results in a 300 or so rpm idle and masses of juddering. this juddering remains if you use the go pedal to make a normal idle.

plugs said a while back that it was running lean. or at least running picture 4 in the haynes i have. since driving from suffolk to portsmouth this has cleared a bit but its still adjusted away from the point of highest revs (where haynes suggests the mixture is best).

the carb is particularly clean and shiney so i assume it must be a mixture related problem. in the current hot weather it starts fine without choke but i'm still concerned for the snow in may.

any ideas?

plug colour may be related to its air leak it had a while back. not sure how long it takes sparks to change. 250 miles? runs funny anyway.

sounds like classic air leak to me.

If it was just running bad all the time and you couldn't get it to run smoothly at all then I would suggest the dizzy cap.
