340 in Australia

Post by baz » 14 Jul 2007 12:46 pm

Hi all im from melbourne Australia and own a 1985 340 1.7 a model according to volvo that was never sold here mines in need of a clutch as the centre of it has broken up
What i want to know is the 360 2 litre clutch the same_a model sold here_ or the renault 19 chamade which is amazingly common in wreckers yards here if neither can be used i'd like to know which firms in the UK would be prepared to freight parts to this side of the world
I'm in the process of obtaining a roadworthy for the car which was easier than expected only failed on front shocks hoping 360 ones can be used if not will transplant 360 struts
hoping someone out there has an idea which clutch i can use as apart from that the cars in fine shape in fact still quite drivable just a little noisy when idling slowly

It's some sort of Renault engine, but tbh I couldn't tell you quite which one...sorry. The 1.7 engines didn't change all that much from the early to the late ones so why can't you just get a Volvo clutch?

The clutch kit is only a volvo part and not compatible with anthing else. The plate is the same as soem of the renaults and the pressure plate is also common but the realeas bearing is Volvo only. I think the bearing is the same on the 1.7 and 360 so you could mix and match.

I've not found any (modern at least) renaults with the same friction plate, all the later stuff has a different number of splines (26 off top of the head) to the 300 (20 i believe)

re clutch

Post by baz » 17 Jul 2007 07:32 am

Success on the clutch kit search was starting to get worried i'd not find one after being told "its an import were not interested" by both a dealer and a firm that advertises they are the largest aftermarket volvo spares place in australia
a small one man accessory shop near home found one and got it to me in 4 hours I was impressed
Now clutch replacement is on my "to do" list the car is slowly taking shape again looking like this weekend will be busy as i get some serious rebuliding of car underway
