No Renault engines!!

Post by patch79 » 15 Sep 2008 10:57 pm

If its helpful to anyone, the 1400 Renalt engine i tried to put in my 343 wasn'y a very sucsesful swap, they look virtually the same but the manifolds dont mate up so ive ended up still needing to replace the head. Also the mounting bracket for the bottom of the altenator fits differently. Ihad to make my own bracket, nothing to complicated but still annoying, i should of just put a 1700 in and just had the trouble once instead i'll probably want more power in a couole of months, oh well!! :roll:

a little bit off topic,

but the chap who bought my old 1.4 motor only wanted it to fit into a Renault 8 Gorndini!

apprently the blocks are the same(or simular), he bores them out and some fancy crank, along with the alloy 16v head from a R8 made some silly 1600 16v engine, cant remeber the details exactly

The ports on the head are totally different, Ive left the block in because that wasn't to much of an issue, Just going to get a new volvo head. The renault i got the engine out of was N reg i think thats 1995 maybe the old one are a closer match. I was talking to some one who said the renault fuego (how ever its spelt?) would be the engine to get becauase its the right way round in the bay so you can use the manifolds and everything, Apparently they did a turbo one of those to. Wish i could find one of those engines!!

If you dropped the later engine in from a 5 the one that has energy written on the rocker cover then yes the heads are totally Different.

C1J = direct replacement of B14

C2J and C3J = different port / bolt layout

unfortunately, this is also the reason why there are not yet a lot of B14 with monopoint injection :)
