engine change

Post by rems » 21 Jan 2009 09:43 pm

i know there are alot of posts on the site to do with engine conversion and what ones to go for ect and im in the same sort of situation at the mo lol

im planning ahead with my 340 with what to do to it ect and i do want to do an engine conversion but a simple one but that will give more power then 1.7 engine

and i was also thinking of an engine which is different but not sure how hard it would be to do and thats to do a pinto engine

so 2 questions really....

what would be the simplest engine conversion to do with a 340 1.7?

and

would it be possible for a pinto engine to fit but im guessing it would be alot if hassle to do :?

In a word i would avoid the pinto, is there any reason why you want to chuck a pinto in there? i dont know if you realise but 340's run transaxle setups so no conventional gearbox.
Easiest upgrade is a 1.8 16V clio lump or 2.0l williams. But all F series renault engines bolt in.

Pintos are poor in the first place, even with the "millions of years of development" everyone goes on about, they've just about made it passable. The figures the scandaweegish get from redblocks is something to aspire to if thats you game, but as Adam says, Fseries is the sensible choice.

The pinto is a poor engine tbh and not worth bothering with.
The easy swap s the 2ltr 8 valve from the 400 series,
then you are onto the 1.8 and 2ltr renault 16 valve engines still mostly bolt in.

If you want to go very different then you will need to also be looking at replacing all the drive line.
