Looking good Jon..! Decent match with the paint...

Whats an over drive ? :D
Just kidding.....interesting concept not sure how it would be deployed on a transaxle set up though..hmm.

Thank you. After much cursing and climbing in the boot, I got the back seat re-fitted...

Image

... but my back and right hip joint were telling me that I couldn't do this...

Still a bit unhappy with myself over the colour so I went over it with some original Volvo touch-up paint, thinned-out with tons of acetone. Dried very quickly so I am happy with the result, but now it's too red again....

Image

...still, it's time to stop worrying about about the boot floor.

Ok, so got the boot boards back in place, etc, and now it's time to show off my latest restoration piece: a 3-compartment toolbox hand-painted to match, I hope.

Now, it's time to start freeing-off the rear brakes.

Good work, I think the red boot floor looks spot on....
Nice tool boxes, something much nicer about older steel boxes compared to modern plastic.
I have a plastic box in mine for carting around 'emergency tools/bits' but might upgrade at some point. (need to also put your template to good use as thats another job not done for the boot floor...!)
I can recommend a tin of Autotek brake caliper paint (via Ebay) to freshen up your drums, I did this last year, makes a huge difference. You can also use this for painting the backing plates etc.
Spotted an interesting thing, your boot latch has a plastic surround, seems to be missing from my car from memory.... its the small details that make all the difference !
Good luck with your brake overhaul !
Cheers Dave

Cheers, I'll see if I've got a spare seal for the boot latch. They disintegrate all the time so I've patched-up the ones for the door handles with black sealant.

The drums came off quite easily, thankfully.

All came apart pretty well on one side. The lever was totally seized-up cos the garage had used brake-cleaner to remove all the copper-ease I had put on it to prevent it seizing-up. However, it freed-up fairly quickly with some hammering and WD40. The only good news is that the two people there who did all this trashing have been fired... Perhaps, gone are the days of: "Your exhaust pipe came apart in me hands, Jon", but perhaps not.

Spot of copper grease and it's all gone back together on the driver's side. I think it's alright, but let me know if you spot any bloomers.

The other side came apart and the lever was found to have seized-up, but not as badly as the first one. Freed-up and copper greased, it's going back together.

Hopefully she will be off her stilts soon and back in action.

Got it back together, adjusted the handbrake and back on the ground again. Seems ok now.

Good you have your brakes sorted Jon, sounds like the garage folks who had been in there before didn't have a clue!

Just noted your comment on the boot latch, thanks for the offer, I actually have a spare new seal to be fitted, just not got round to it. It was the black plastic moulding surround on the latch fixed to the rear panel that I spotted but it turns out mine does in fact have this present after checking again lol...

Been servicing Deep Blue which involved fitting a new fuel filter...

Image

...and replacing the dizzy cap and rotor arm. But, they were still in fine condition:

Image
...when they usually look like this with the carbon contact at the top totally burnt out:
Image

Mental. So I cleaned them up a bit and just refitted them:

Quick oil change done, too.

Cleaned the plugs and replaced the air filter, which clearly had been doing its job.

Current mileage for Deep Blue is 95k.

Its the 1st April (not) so now all she needs is a new zhaust and some stylish alloys.

What do you think of that then ;-?

P.S. you might detect some failry rubbish pixel editing there.
