I was testing my rev limiter the other day - after a talk with someone about it being at 6200 - I know my black one revved to atleast 6500... and so does the saloon, it didn't even limit - I chickened out and changed up.

That would have been me you were discussing it with :)

Mine definitely cuts at 6250...in fact in the lower gears it appears to be more like 6000, as the needle has a little lag.

Seriously though, don't bother topping 5500 with a stock B200...they don't make good power up there, so why increase your engine wear and fuel consumption for no reason?

cheers

I said in my last post..it's a load mismatch. Try pedalling a bike as fast as you can with the chain off and you'll see what I mean.

The B14 renix units DON'T have rev limiters. I tested my B14 4E -85, and it went up to 6600rpm without a problem on the 2nd gear.

And i used the same unit on my 2,5L 16v engine, and it went well over 7krpm, and FAST. Also tested a couple other B14 units. No confirmation of the B172 units.

But the B200 renix units seem to have a limiter @6200rpm, tough my friend once got my fathers 360GLi -90 B200F engine up over 6500rpm, and i'm 100% sure of it. But one day here when i tried it, ot stopped at 6200rpm. :?

Also the Volvo Penta AQ171 renix units have a limiter @6200rpm, both mine, one is a 1-2year old (cost like 1200e  :? ), and the other's 1987.

Right, this is an odd one, I was talking to Steve and Andy about this as well in the past, I've hit 6500 rpm in mine occassionally, and recently more, so there is no limiter on my 1989 B200E, but I don't find any real need to rev the B200 that much, the power has gone up there, but on the odd occassion I've been in the very high revs there is no sign of a limiter, in any gear either.

There's definitely a rev limiter in mine. Its confirmed in the green book too.
But there doesn't seem to be a rev limiter on the 1987 and later models. B200K and B200E. The weird thing is that Foggy reckons he's got one on his B200K.

It would be good to get a definitive answer. If anyone can find a list of the Renix ignition setups related to code number that would I reckon answer a lot of questions.

Mine hits a brick-wall limiter at around 6250rpm...every time, without fail.

I've had Nessy (B14) at 6500 before I decided to call it a day, as I wasn't getting any more power, and I don't want to any rods seeing daylight!

cheers

Yeah mine hits the wall at 6250 aswell, quite a shock if you forget about it and get hurled forwards (flat out in 2nd then bang!) the b14 went to 6500 and I didn't take it any further
