Yup, another on the wrong renix! Fake was the same... at least it just had the wrong years for the engine, so the map was right -ish ;)

Glad its all feeling better, and you reminded me I need to hunt out a re-circ set, not sure if I have one upstairs, but I'm missing it in this car.

Actually, any chance if we find that renix post again a mod can sticky it for us, or even a cleaned up version, with just the numbers relating to engines?

"Lunchtime" servicing ?? - We started at 11.00 and finished at about 15.30 - but I guess that's about right for a students lunch !!

Brakes gone over - and yes the usual leaky rear cylinders. Other than that no real problem. Front discs were fine and pads looked almost new - just a general clean up (and polluting the neighbourhood with the air line).

On the rear, as said, new cyls. - but the shoes were very good and the fluid hadn't reached them so again a good clean up only. (stripped everything off and cleaned/lubed the h/brake actuators and adjusters). Drums also fine.
(damn ! I had hoped to sell Vart my new rear drums!!).

Tried out my latest toy (Mityvac kit inc. vacuum brake bleeding) which worked a treat. (also will form part of my CVT test gear if it's ever needed).

On examination of dead cylinders we found one piston on the n/s almost seized and as expected all the seals pretty f****d.

As for the Renix, Vart had reported what he thought was a return of tappet noise when pulling up hills - ah ha me-thinks pinking - and yes we find the unit he had had fitted by "the previous owner who knows all about cars" was in fact a 406 (B200K) - way too far advanced!!. Fortunately I had a 412A 'in stock' (the one I had used to illustrate my ignition thread') with a broken vac connection stub. We repaired this with some polyethylene glue, another vac. unit top and a piece of load levelling damper pressure pipe - an on it went. No more pinking!

Fan belt was - well just a fan belt.

Found up a new check valve for the air re-circ. (now flap will stay shut with the engine off - don't really know why you would want it to though). Never did find out how long it would hold up for - Vart kept hitting the button! (and now in his post I see why - he wants to open a book on the result!!)

Slowly running out of jobs to do now - just the door hinge pins to change (if they are still available) and we're almost done.

'The neverending story'

Kar's re-circ flap stays up units of weeks rather than days! As you say though, I've never seen the point!

Hows the CVT tester coming on Mac?

Hi Chris, Test box itself is finished - I've now got to write a proceedure for it. (which I have drafted). And (big and) I need to proof it on an actual car - but it does what I expect it to do when just applying vacuum in the reight place.

It's a simple affair that will monitor engine vaccum on one gauge whilst monitoring transmission vac. on another. You can also 'trap' vacuum in the primary unit and watch for leaks. It will fit between the engine and 4way valve and between the 4way valve and the transmission (brake side and o/d side tested separately). It will also monitor the switching of the 4way valve solenoids. It should also check out the clutch disengage servo system as well.

(it won't do anything you can't do with a vac.pump/gauge and a multimeter but it looks nicer all in one box!).

My intention was to bring it to a meet and have a 'laying on of hands' session but I'm a bit out of the way over in Suffolk (except for Vart who is manual box) so it may be easier simply to lend it out (for the cost of post) to any known V3M member who has a need. (with a copy of my CVT article of course which Aymat has had for a good few weeks now) (Does anyone know if Aymat is still on Mars - at least he doesn't seem to have been around for a while).

Sorry everyone - I know it's a threadjack but you did ask Chris!

Belgium is close enough....

And also, nice work on the CVT tester. It'll be a valuable resource for the (fairly rare) CVT owner - since alot of CVT cars come with their problems now.

spoke to Aymat the other day on msn ,

he's o.k but busy as usual .

He was very angry with me at first because he thought I was breaking the redline  but was his old self when I explained it was still in one piece
